St Michael’s College I CAN PLAY, MAKE AND ACHIEVE (SA)

Tell us how your artwork addresses this year’s theme ‘I Can’:
Our artwork shows the many things we can do at school, both inside and outside the classroom. We worked together as a team to create a colourful A2 poster that celebrates our learning, playing and achieving. The poster includes our new school building and oval, the butterfly garden we helped to grow, and the South Australian sky we see every day. We each added parts that show what we can do: playing musical instruments, scoring goals in soccer, learning in special subjects like art, music, PE, and Italian, and feeling proud after swimming competitions.

Tell us about the ideas or themes your artwork explores with the theme ‘I Can’:
Our artwork explores the idea that we can learn in different ways, we can play and be active, and we can work together. We used different textures and colours to represent the new building and natural spaces, like our building and natural spaces, like our butterfly garden that attracts
butterflies and birds. Each of us shared ideas and included things we love to do, showing that we can be creative, sporty, musical and curious. The poster shows our pride in our school and how we can all belong, try our best and shine in our own way.

What type of art have you submitted and why?
Pencil, paint sticks, metallic markers to make it bold and colourful like the colours at our school.

Anything else you’d like to add?
The group worked really well together and made new friends. They were also experiencing the inclusivity of our school community and making connections with other students with and without deafness.
