Shepparton Deaf Facility School OUR SHINING HEARTS (Vic)

Tell us how your artwork addresses this year’s theme ‘I Can’:
I can communicate with my eyes, my ears, my hands, my mouth and my heart.

Tell us about the ideas or themes your artwork explores with the theme ‘I Can’:
The children declared “I can communicate” and we discussed how our eyes and ears and mouths and hands are all used in different ways. One child said we need the light on so we can see and can communicate. Another child said we are all bright and the discussion then shifted from the
light shining on us to the light shining from within us. They decided it came from our hearts.

What type of art have you submitted and why?
Drawing, cutting and pasting, paper, glitter paint, textas, crayons.

Anything else you’d like to add?
The children liked to use the colour blue for their hands, inspired by the sign union flag. We took photos of eyes and ears, and the children added the rest of their faces on the heart. They drew and cut the heart and their handshapes, with older children helping the younger children. The glitter was added to show how they all shine brightly.
