Heroes and Leaders Exhibition – Diverse Talents Shine at Deaf Children Australia’s 2023 Art Show in Melbourne

Watch this video to meet some of the winners and their amazing artwork

Art can depict human thoughts and emotions with great beauty and power. You’ll see many examples of creativity as a form of personal expression in this video of Deaf Children Australia’s art show.

Hosted at the Gasworks Arts Park in Melbourne, the 2023 exhibition and competition gave deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) children and young people the opportunity to showcase their talents. As one benefactor who made the exhibition possible explains, the annual program is a chance to uncover hidden ability.

Deaf Children Australia host the competition to support and encourage DHH young people aged from 8 to 23 years to pursue their creativity.

You’ll see an array of diverse, fascinating and moving pieces, all based on the theme of ‘Heroes and Leaders’. See works created using a variety of genres and mediums, from graphic novels and cartoons to paintings and photographs.

Discover why the Visual Arts Manager of Gasworks Arts Park believes DHH artists have a unique perspective. And meet several of the young winners as they share how art inspires them, and how the heroes in their lives inspire their art.
