Deaf Children Australia was thrilled to welcome 23 families to the annual Victorian
Family Camp, held over two fun–filled days on 14–15 March 2026. The camp took place
at PGL Campaspe Downs in Victoria, just a scenic one hour and 20–minute drive from
Melbourne.
The weekend was blessed with beautiful sunny weather (and plenty of sunscreen!), as
children and their families enjoyed an exciting range of activities across the campsite.
From morning adventures to late–night bingo, there was something for everyone to
enjoy.
Children aged 4 and above took part in thrilling activities such as abseiling, the flying
fox, canoeing, and laser tag. It’s safe to say laser tag was a crowd favourite! Many
families jumped right in, giving it their all, resulting in lots of laughter, excitement, and
unforgettable moments.
Younger children aged 4 and under enjoyed a variety of calm and creative activities,
including arts and crafts, sensory play, and a special Auslan Storytime led by one of
our Deaf mentors. The story Platypus Playhouse with Annie and Pip was a big hit!

The little ones also loved building sandcastles in the sandpit and cooling off with water play. On Saturday evening, all families came together for a lively game of bingo, with raffles drawn throughout the night. Both children and parents were excited to win fun prizes such as colouring pens, handballs, and keyrings. One lucky parent even took home the final bingo win! It was a wonderful opportunity for families to build connection, share laughs, and strengthen their sense of community around the table.
Our DCA family camps continue to bring families together, helping them build confidence, friendship, and lifelong memories. These camps play an important role in providing support for Deaf families, and connection within the Deaf community.
If you want to help more families access support and activities for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children, please consider making a donation. Your generosity helps us continue providing support for parents of Deaf children and programs that strengthen communication and make a real difference to the lives of Deaf and Hard of hearing young people.
