On the weekend of 21st and 22nd February, families came together for a special Tasmanian camp filled with fun, connection, and shared experiences.
We welcomed 13 families, altogether 41 people. There was a great mix of new families, including deaf and hard of hearing children, siblings, and parents. Those who have joined us before creating a warm and welcoming space for everyone.
Outdoor Adventures and Big Smiles
Saturday was full of exciting outdoor activities. Families were split into two groups so everyone could have a go at:
- Giant swing
- Flying fox
- Rock climbing
There was plenty of encouragement and cheering throughout the day.
One especially touching moment was indoor rock climbing, where a father reached the top and then waited to help guide his son all the way up. It was a beautiful moment of support and connection.
At the flying fox, some children got creative by building rock stacks, with a few reaching impressive heights. There were also a few surprises along the track, including a snake that seemed curious to join in on the fun.
Bingo continued into the evening, causing much laughter, with Oliver winning.
A Relaxed Sunday Together
Sunday had a slower pace, giving families time to relax and connect through creative activities.
- Teddy stuffing
- Bag designing to take home
- Painting and colouring
There was even an impromptu Auslan class, which brought people together in a fun and meaningful way.
Families also enjoyed sand art and face painting, while others spent time outside playing giant chess, volleyball, or jumping on the trampolines. The sand areas were a big hit with the kids as well.
A special visit from the local firefighters and their truck added another exciting moment to the day.
Building Friendships and Community
Throughout the weekend, it was wonderful to see deaf and hard of hearing children forming new friendships and strengthening existing ones. Parents also had the chance to connect, share experiences, and enjoy being part of a supportive community.
A Weekend to Remember
Tasmania Camp was a weekend full of laughter, learning, and connection. From outdoor adventures to quiet creative moments, it was a chance for families to come together, support each other, and enjoy time as a community.
We look forward to many more moments like this in the future.
