Community protests are being held in all capital cities this Saturday 13 February at 11am over lack of cinema access for deaf and blind Australians. Deaf Children Australia, in partnership with the City of Melbourne, is hosting a DeafAbility Day this Saturday 5 December 2009 at 597 St Kilda Road, Melbourne from 10am to 3pm to commemorate International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). IDPD is commonly celebrated around the world on 3 December each year to acknowledge the achievements of people with a disability.
DeafAbility Day will showcase the skills, abilities, contributions and achievements of deaf and hard of hearing people and promote their positive image out in the community. Read more »
nib foundation has generously donated $8000 to Deaf Children Australia. The funding made available by the foundation’s Community Grants program will help establish a Deaf Girls’ Circle, which will act as a life issues forum and social group for deaf girls aged 14 to 18 in Victoria.
The group will bring deaf teenage girls together for social purposes, to encourage confidence, resourcefulness and identity, to develop their knowledge of life issues, and to foster skills of independence. Read more »

Dr Christine Yoshinaga-Itano, a leading international academic on deafness and language development, is visiting Australia on Monday 12 October at Deaf Children Australia, 597 St Kilda Road to share her insights and experiences on best practice approaches to newborn hearing screening.
Dr Yoshinaga-Itano’s visit corresponds with the National Week of Deaf People (Saturday 10th October - Friday 16th October 2009), a week-long national celebration of Deaf individuals and the Australian Deaf Community. Read more »

Deaf Children Australia congratulates the Rudd Government for the announcement that by the end of 2010 every child born in Australia will have access to screening for hearing impairment.

A showcasing of artwork by young deaf people and deaf adult artists will be presented at this year’s Deaf Youth Arts Exhibition on Saturday 13th June 2009 from 11am - 2pm at Deaf Children Australia.
Young deaf people will have the opportunity to display their works of art, show off their hip hop dance routines, and be inspired by the performances of other professional deaf dancers, all made possible with the support of Deaf Arts Network and the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Fund. Read more »

Deaf Children Australia has just launched an inspiring new book aimed at families of newly diagnosed deaf and hard of hearing children. Entitled Breaking the Sound Barriers: 9 deaf success stories, this collection of real life stories captures the struggles and successes of nine remarkable deaf adults and parents of deaf children. Each explores what helped and what hindered them and offers advice to other parents of deaf children. Read more »
