What are Deaf Children Australia Presentations?

Deaf Children Australia provides presentations for individuals and groups about the impact of childhood deafness.

Where are presentations held?

Presentations are held in the community where requested. This can be at schools and kindergartens, service clubs or any other interested organisation.

Who are presentations for?

Presentations are designed for any group or individual who wishes to learn more about our organisation, the services we provide and how deafness can affect the lives of children and their families.

How much do they cost?

Costs may vary, ranging from complimentary to an appropriate fee for service. When you make a request discuss this with the person who takes your referral.

What type of presentations are provided?

We can provide either workshops or presentations of the following types:

Workshops

1. Cool Kids / Cool Parents
A parenting program for parents, carers and guardians of deaf and hard of hearing children (National)

2. Being Deaf
For primary aged deaf and hearing children on how deaf people communicate and live (Victoria only)

3. Who Am I?
For either deaf and hard of hearing young people and their hearing peers to explore their identity, challenges and opportunities (Victoria only)

4. Puberty
For deaf and hard of hearing children in Grades 5, 6 or 7. (Victoria only)

Teachers interested in workshops 2, 3 and 4 must have a deaf or hard of hearing child in their school to be eligible.

Presentations

We can also facilitate information sessions in a range of topics, for example:

  • Enhancing communication
  • Language development and deaf children
  • Parenting a deaf child
  • Disability legislation including education standards
  • Advocacy skills for families of deaf children
  • Supporting deaf and hard of hearing children in school
  • The diagnosis of deafness
  • Services available for the on-going support of deaf children
  • Technology options
  • Class room tips
  • Deaf Children Australia’s services
  • General information about deafness for community groups (dependent on availability of speakers to attend)

Are presentations provided nationally?

Presentations are usually provided in Victoria but advice and information can be given to anyone in Australia. However, each request is looked at on an individual basis.

Can Deaf Children Australia provide a stall at Expos?

Deaf Children Australia is keen to be in attendance at Expos and hold display stalls. This can be anywhere in Australia.

Contact the Deaf Children Australia Helpline on 1800 645 916 or email helpline@deafchildren.org.au who will then refer your request to the most appropriate staff member. For people with a visual impairement this brochure is available in large print format. Please contact the Helpline to request a copy.
