What is Child & Family Support?Child and Family Support at Deaf Children Australia is provided to families who have a deaf, hard of hearing or speech dyspraxic child. We aim to support children and families to identify and achieve their goals in keeping with their individual needs and circumstances.
We advocate on behalf of the child and family, refer the child and / or family to relevant services, co-ordinate services and provide emotional support where needed.
We also facilitate parenting programs and may attend various meetings, including meetings at schools.
We have qualifications in Social Work or a related discipline and have knowledge and skills in working with deaf and hard of hearing children, young people and families.
Child and Family Support is available in Melbourne and across regional Victoria. This is mainly through our workers visiting children and their families in their home, school, or another mutually agreeable place.
Child and Family Support is a free service.
Child and Family Support is available to school aged children and young people who are deaf, hard of hearing or speech dyspraxic and who reside in Victoria. This includes children who communicate orally, through Auslan or both. We assist children who have cochlear implants, or a range of other aids to assist their hearing ability.
