Community Consultation - 150 Years Celebrations

The organisation that is now known as Deaf Children Australia (DCA) was officially formed two years after the establishment of Deaf and Dumb School in 1860.   Deaf Children Australia was also formerly known as Victorian Services for Deaf Children Inc (VSDC Inc).  We are celebrating 150-year anniversary in 2012.

We would like to hear from you, former students or service users of VSDC Inc/ DCA about any ideas, comments, suggestions or feedback on the planning for 150 Years Celebrations.

Kyle Miers, Deaf Project Leader, will be meeting with Deaf Community throughout Victoria to conduct Community Consultations with former students, clients, staff and teachers.

We would like to know:

  1. What activities, events or programs would you like to see leading up and beyond 150 Years Celebrations?
  2. What are the 5 key themes that should be used throughout the Celebrations (e.g. Deaf Community, Education, Families, etc)
  3. Other ideas/ suggestions?

How to get involved
You can get involved by leaving your comments below, or by attending one of the Community Consultation sessions.

Community Consultation sessions will be held in November, 2009 throughout Victoria, and each session should not take any more than 2 hours. Dates and venues will be advertised on the website soon.

For more information, please contact Kyle Miers at kmiers@deafchildren.org.au or Fax: 03 9525 2595

bike ride

Mutsumi, Deb and I think that we should do a "promotional bike ride" from Sydney (whose 150 years is two weeks before us) to Melbourne to raise money and increase awareness - and we could arrive at DCA in the middle of all the celebrations. We could also convince Kirk and Neil to come too!!! and a DCA support car with fancy colorful stickers of logo to advertise the cause :)

ATOD

I would invite the Australian Theatre of the Deaf to perform from their repetoire and screen all of Sofya Gollan's films.

ATOD and Sofya's films

Thank you for your comment! I will forward your ideas to Kyle.
